Receiver-in-canal (RIC)

Receiver in canal hearing aids fit behind the ear with a narrow tube inserted in the ear canal. This results in an "open-fit", preventing the occlusion effect that leave some wearers uncomfortable. RIC hearing aids are one of the most popular wearing styles due to their comfort, and discreet appearance.

Behind-the-ear (BTE)

Behind-the-ear hearing aids are worn behind the ear with a custom fit earmold that fits inside the outer ear. The electronic components of the hearing aid are held in the case behind the ear. Sound travels from the hearing aid through the earmold and into the ear. BTE aids are used by people of all ages for mild to profound hearing loss.

Invisible-in-Canal (IIC)

The Invisible In the Canal (IIC) is the smallest style and is undetectable when worn. IIC aids are worn by patients with mild to moderately severe hearing loss. Because they are so small, canal aids may be difficult for a person to adjust and remove.

completely in canal hearing aids

Completely-in-Canal (CIC)

The completely-in-canal (CIC) hearing aid is a custom device that is nearly hidden in the ear canal. They are not recommended for those with severe to profound hearing loss because their reduced size limits their power and volume.

In-the-Canal (ITC)

In-the-canal hearing aids fit the canal and  the outer ear and are used for mild to severe hearing loss. Some ITC aids may have certain added features installed, such as a telecoil. A telecoil is a small magnetic coil that allows users to receive sound through the circuitry of the hearing aid.

In-the-ear (ITE)

In-the-ear hearing aids are customized to fit the inside of the outer ear. ITE aids are usually not worn by young children because the casings need to be replaced often as the ear grows.
